Insurance imbroglio......

Yesterday, I called my insurange agent -- the one who holds the "home contents policy". They said they sent a copy to the mortgage company, and automatically send one to them every time the policy is renewed (i.e. every year). And they said they'll fax them another copy.

One down, one to go.

I also advised Lyn, my neighbor and our condo association president, of the situation and requested that the insurange agent who holds the policy on the condo buildings send a copy of the building policy to the mortgage company. I also asked Lyn that the agent send a copy of the policy to my mortgage company every time it's renewed. Lyn thought that that was an unreasonable request. According to her, no one else in the complex has ever requested a copy of the building insurance policy, other than me. I don't think it's an unreasonable request, since my insurance company did that for the contents policy.

Today I called the mortgage company. While the person I spoke to was pleasant, I didn't get very much new information or compassion from her. ("Our interest is in you"? Yeah right.) What they're (still) looking for is the "building policy". (Why they couldn't state this in the form letter is beyond me. It's written for houses and not condominiums.) She said that they tried to contact the insurance agent listed on the building policy, which is something they don't ordinarily do, and was informed that they no longer have the policy. (This is true -- a few years ago, the building policy was cancelled due to a high number of claims involving leaky roofs. We've since obtained new insurance, from a different company.) I also asked why the 60-day policy was started on June 17, but the outgoing letter was dated July 20. She gave no explanation for the delay, except that the first 10 days were spent trying to contact the old agent.

Part of me is kicking myself because in retrospect, I wasn't aggressive and pushy enough in asking for what I want. My ruthless tyrant thinks I came across as a wimp; because I was willing to accept defeat as an outcome (i.e. that I might not get what I want), then that is what I got. My ruthless tyrant wants to sic the attack dog on them, because that is how I would achieve a victory. A win-lose victory and not a win-win victory, but my ruthless tyrant has no desire to share victories with anyone.

I'm still waiting to hear back from Lyn. I hope something's sent by the 12th. I don't want to have to pay for an insurance policy I don't need.

Either I have a very thorough mortgage company or my neighbors' lenders aren't as concerned about the building's insurance policy.

I also received a belated birthday gift from R: the first season of Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law on DVD.
